Woke up in London yesterday, saw myself in the city near Piccadily, don't really know how I got here . . .

Today was a fantastic day all around. I want to say it's been my favorite day overall, but I have done more awesome things in days gone by. Today, we started our day on Portobello Road. It's true what they really say . . . you go there to SHOP. That place is really dangerous for me. I'm always very close to just caving in and buying everything. No joke. I'm really proud of myself and the discipline I demonstrated: I only bought a dress, three scarves, and a ring . . . all for very good prices mind you! Here are some snapshots of my day on Portobello Road and my spoil.

And . . . I just couldn't resist.

And . . .

They are soooooo soft. Which is very important to me. My mom can attest to the fact that I think basically everything is itchy. I wish I wasn't so sensitive. With the first two scarves it's a little hard to tell the difference in the pictures. The first one has warmer colors while the second has cooler colors. Then the last one is just red. Well, there is no such thing as "just red."

Yes. Your eyes doth not deceive you. This dress, does in fact, have suspenders. The second I saw it, I knew we were meant for each other. All the other dresses were incredible, but our relationship was meant to be of a long standing type.

Afterward, we went with our class to see Shakespeare's The Tempest in a theatre called Little Angel Theatre. Let me just tell you how incredibly awesome it was! There were puppets! People with accordions! A guy peeing on stage! (Though he had a hard time fooling us with his very clear and translucent pee.) This was supposed to be a production mainly for children, but there were much more adults than there were children. I feel like it was very close to being perfect in my eyes. The puppets brought a magical quality to the play that is very much necessary for this play.

Our happy, smiling faces after the production was over. This play just makes you happy :)))) The girl next to me is Dezi and the other is Ariatna. They are my flat mates, and they are incredible!

That there is Caliban and Stephano, plotting the murder of Prospero.

This is what they used for Ariel. He looks really dinky in that picture, but he was actually quite adorable :)

Here's a better picture of Caliban while he is standing. The guy standing up wearing gray with his face half concealed behind the puppet did Caliban's voice. It was weird at first seeing the guys in gray hold up the puppets, but you got used to it after awhile. This is one of the most engaging Shakespeare plays I have ever seen. Serious.

My evening didn't stop there! Of course not. We then ate at this Turkish place that was delicious! I couldn't tell a word they said. I just said yes to everything they asked, very much like Cafe Rio, and what they gave me turned out to be delicious so I wasn't complaining :)

This was what I ate. I think it's called a lamb doner??? Don't really know what that is. All I know is that it is incredibly spicy, and incredibly delicious.

I was beginning to think that the employees were getting irritated with us loud, obnoxious Americans. But I guess we rubbed off on them after awhile though and they really enjoyed us there, and one of them saw that I was taking pictures and wanted one with him in it. I couldn't refuse.

Behind the attractive, single, 18 year old boy from Afghanistan (we got all this information from the older, Turkish employees) are two cylinders of solid meat. The chicken is on the left, and the lamb is on the right. They just shave off the meat from that when they need it, very much like Tucanos.

Then! No, the evening is still not over yet. I had the most divine dessert my tongue ever rested on . . . Gelato . . . .

My flavor of choice is cookies. It was . . . ah . . . I don't know . . . just so . . . creamy. I will never be happy with ice cream ever again.

  3. SUSPENDERS! I am so jealous. Oh my goodness.
And I'm jealous of that play. Oh my goodness.
There used to be a really good gelato place on Center Street. Now it is dead. :(

  4. It's true, gelato beats ice creams behind. And turkish food?! I'm so happy to hear that you are having a culinary adventure too! Also, love the dress.

  5. FOOD! Those Turks really know how it's done! Now you have to try mince pie and blood sausage. Also, Dain will be thrilled about your suspenders.

I'll stick with you baby for a thousand years. Nothing's gonna touch you in these golden years.

By this time in our trip, our group has already seen Shakespeare's All's Well That Ends Well at the Globe . . . which was superb. Today, we got to take a tour of the theatre itself. Might be one of my favorite sight seeing things I have done. It's just that I have spent so many school years learning about this theatre and the time of Shakespeare. I feel like all I had learned didn't really stick until today. I was there. I was in the space where it all happened. It's true what my English professors say, that if you really want to major in English, your life wouldn't be fulfilled to you come to England. Everything I have learned just gels together all of a sudden. It's beautiful. A wonderful event in earth's history. A stunning creation wrought by humankind. For instance, I learned that the people who watch from the ground are called "groundlings." Makes sense. They were also called "penny stinkers" because they paid one penny to get i...

In the spring I shed my skin and it blows away with the changing wind.

And so begins my Brighton Beach Memoirs. Most of our group took a day trip on Friday to Brighton. After taking the train out through gorgeous green country, we reached the coast. Can you see the ocean yet? How about now? And there it is. It was a tad chilly and pretty windy, but there was sun and ocean, so we were happy :) It was such a relief to be able to leave the rushed city of London and go to Brighton. We were able to take it slow and just relax. A pebble beach isn't nearly as comfortable as a sand beach, but it is something to look at. Here it is ladies and gentlemen. Legit fish and chips on the sea side of Brighton. It was good, except I didn't have nearly enough tartar sauce. This is a lovely pier that goes out a ways and has treat shops and a mini theme park. It's adorable! We then basked in the generous sunlight right beside King George's little vacation palace. Don't ask me which King George. I wasn't enough in the touristy mood to take note! Then c...

Something happens and I'm head over heels.

So I have been slacking a bit on my blogging responsibilities. Sorry :( I will try my best to update everyone on what has paso. Yesterday, I went with Dezi and Ari to the Victoria and Albert museum, which is literally a couple hundred feet from where we go to school. Very convenient for us. This museum has just about everything you would ever want to look at. What follows will be various random snapshots of the museum, and only some of them will I actually comment on. Okay, here we go: First thing you see as you enter: It was in this very moment that I realized how extremely immature and uncultured I am, because all I could say as I walked in was "Oh! Look at that. What a wonderful first impression of this place." I've since repented and have taken on a more European view of art :) This piece was called Silencing Falsehood. Hmmmmm....... I thought this one was really cool because of the plaque that was below it: This piece was done as a memorial to the sculptor's youn...
